Cougars split West games at Pratt

Cougars split West games at Pratt
The Barton County Community College softball team split two games at Lemon Park in Pratt Thursday in a make-up doubleheader from earlier this season. The Cougars lost the opener by a 9-0 score, but came back to earn a 4-1 win for the split.

The Cougars are now 13-17 overall and 3-3 in the Jayhawk West. Pratt is 15-14 overall and 5-3 in the West.

Highlights
Two bad innings did the Cougars in the opener with the Beavers. Pratt scored 4 runs on just 3 hits and 3 Barton errors in the 2nd inning and added 5-run 4th inning on just 3 hits and another 3 errors. Barton committed 9 errors in the game and had just one hit.

The second game much better for the Cougars. Barton rode the strong pitching of Karalea Closson until they were able to break the scoreless game open in the 3rd inning. Erin Morin had a 2-run double in the inning that scored Brandi Gillette and Ruby Garza. Sarah Killian singled in Morin to make it a 4-0 lead for the Cougars. Closson took that lead to the 5th inning where two errors allowed the Beavers an unearned - their only run of the game. Karina Ramirez pitched the 7th to save Closson's win.
