Coach Schenek enters his 5th season as the head track and field coach for the Cougars after spending two years as the assistant coach.  

In 2010, Schenek was awarded the NJCAA Coach of the Meet in guiding the Cougars to the men’s indoor championship with the women’s squad earning third place.   The teams also went on to finish 3rd and 6th respectively in the outdoor championships.

Schenek works with the throwers and jumpers, coaching 6-time National Champion Jasmine Simmons in the horizontal jumps, and 5-time national champion Maximilano Alonso in the throws.

In his first 5 years, he has coached a total of 4 athletes to 13 individual National Championship performances. Coach Schenek has had a total of 66 All-American performances from 20 different athletes. He has coached athletes at the USATF National Championships, the South American Championships in Lima, Peru and the Ibero-American Championships in San Fernando, Spain. Max Alonso also became the National Record holder for Chile in the discus under Schenek’s guidance.

Prior to Barton, Schenek coached at Western Carolina for a year and Georgia Southern for two years, coaching a Southern Conference champion and regional qualifier as well as 7 athletes to 15 all Southern Conference awards in 3 years. Schenek is a USATF Level II certified Throws and Jumps Coach.

Before entering the coaching ranks, he threw for two years at Clemson University and was a member of two Atlantic Coast Conference championship teams. He also competed at the University of Georgia, qualifying for the regionals in both the hammer and discus in 2003 and 2004.

Schenek and his wife Sarah have two children, Catalina and Marilyn.
