Cougars finish 12th at FHSU Tiger Open

The Barton Community College men's cross country team finished 12th out of nineteen teams on Saturday, competing in the FHSU Tiger Open held at the Sand Plum Nature Trail in Victoria, Kansas.

The seven member Cougar squad completed the 8k course in a combined 2:22.31, averaging 28:31 per man.

Grabbing a Top-25 finish out of 186 entries was freshman Samuel Hengeli.  Leading the Cougars in each of the previous three races, Hengeli again was the top runner setting a new personal best time of 26:32.5 eclipsing his previous time by forty-two seconds.  

Ignacio Calderon grabbed the 68th spot with a 27:43.2 time while Corban Ogle just missed the top hundred runners, breaking his personal best by thirty-two seconds crossing in 28:28.5 coming in 101st.

Two more personal bests crossed the line next for the Cougars as Felix Marquez' 116th position was twenty-four seconds ahead of his best recording a 28:50.9 while sophomore Treavon Ware set his new career best by thirty-six seconds clocking a 30:56.1 for 166th.  

Rounding out the Barton entries were Lukas Tucker in 169th at 30:58.0 while recent addition to the squad Javon Patterson finished 177th in his first collegiate race in 32:15.3.

Barton's next competition will the Region VI Championships on Saturday, October 29, in Hutchinson, Kansas.
