Cougar cross country places eighth at Masterson Classic

The Barton Community College men's cross country team opened the 2016 season with an eighth place finish at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic held Friday under the lights of Hutchinson's Fun Valley Sports Complex.  Fielding an all-freshmen squad for the meet, the Cougars' placing came against fifteen teams from the NJCAA, NAIA, and NCAA Division II levels, with two individuals placing in the Top-32 of the 117 man field.

Olathe's Sam Hengeli's 28th placing led Barton in 22:20.3 with teammate Ignacio Calderon of Dodge City stopping the clock five seconds later in 32nd place.

Corban Ogle led a three-man Cougar pack in the 74th spot at 24:07.4, five seconds ahead of Lukas Tucker's 76th spot and eight seconds ahead of Felix Marquez in 77th.   Max Moore rounded out the five-man crew with a 100th placing crossing in 25:57.3.

The Cougars will return to competition Saturday, September 17, traveling to Joplin, Missouri, for the Missouri Southern Stampede.
