Jason Martin is in his second season assisting the Barton Track and Field program.

Martin helped lead the Cougar men to a third straight runner-up indoor finish and a 4th place finish on the women’s side. Martin’s primarily group of Cougars accounted for 53 of Barton’s 99.5 points including three individual national championships and a pair of National Field Athletes of the Year, Annia Ashley and Shakwon Coke.

Martin came to Barton after a one-year stint at Region VI member Highland Community College serving as the assistant track and cross country coach for the Scotties.

Martin spent the two previous years on staff at his alma mater the University of Missouri-Kansas City while obtaining his Master’s degree. Before joining the Roos staff, Martin was an assistant coach at his former alma mater and Region VI member, Coffeyville Community College.

Since becoming a coach, Martin has guided multiple athletes to individual success at the highest level and been a part of strong team achievements. During his time at UMKC he oversaw the sprinters and jumpers, while guiding the Roos to both men’s and women’s outdoor conference titles in 2017 with Martin coaching 18-all conference athletes, four school records and two NCAA Division I regional qualifiers in that season. In 2018 Martin coached UMKC to 13-all-conference athletic honors, an outdoor school record and a duo of regionals qualifying performances. After obtaining his bachelor’s from UMKC, Martin leaped into the coaching carousal returning back to Coffeyville guiding the jumpers. During his stint back at Coffeyville as a coach Martin guided the Ravens to one NJCAA national champion in women’s long jump, six All-Americans and 27 national qualifiers, along with 23 all-region athletes and five school records.

As an athlete Martin began his collegiate career at Coffeyville Community College competing in the KJCCC before leaping to the Division I level in his final two years competing in sprints and jumps. In 2013-14 Martin picked up all-conference honors in the 60m, 200m and triple jump during the indoor portion, along with all-conference honors during the outdoor season in both the triple jump and 4x100m relay. In his final season of eligibility Martin claimed all-conference honors in the triple jump in the indoor season also claiming conference honors in the triple jump and 4x100m relay in the outdoor season.
