Program record earns Barton's Young conference Field Athlete of the Week #GoBarton

Barton track and field athlete Christopher Young week three KJCCC indoor honors

Breaking a program record this past weekend, Christopher Young of the nationally 4th ranked Barton Community College men's track and field program has been named the KJCCC Field Athlete of the Week.

It was only a matter of time before Young would see his name atop the Barton record book and Saturday afternoon at the New Mexico Team Open the time had come.

Already ranking third on the program's Top-10 outdoor shot put and discus list and sitting in second on the indoor shot put chart, Young finally climbed to the top spot on his second heave of the day posting an event winning 18.67m (61-03.00) distance to exceed Fred Moudani's 2021 record by one inch.

The conference's award is Young's second in three weeks of this indoor season competition. Young earned not only the opening week's honor but the national NJCAA Athlete of the Week distinction after posting a pair of personal best throws in the weight throw and a then-second best heave in the shot put.

As a limited squad of Cougars compete Friday and Saturday at the Washburn Open and Multis, Young will take the week off from competition before rejoining his fellow teammates February 9-10 in the Tyson Invitational held in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
