Javelin throw sticks program 3rd best mark, Barton's Young earns second straight conference honor #GoBarton

Barton Track and Field's Christopher Young - Week 7 KJCCC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week

Christopher Young of the nationally 3nd ranked Barton Community College men's track and field team has again been named the Week Seven KJCCC Field Athlete of the Week distinction of the outdoor season.

The third honor in the past four weeks, Young's achievement this week came in the javelin after previously earning the honor last week in the discus throw and two weeks prior in the shot put as both landed in the 6th spot of program historical accomplishments.

This past weekend at Rock Chalk Classic in Lawrence, Kansas, the freshman increased his national lead in the javelin with a 66.98m (219-9) throw in bettering his previous mark by 18 inches in moving from fourth to 3rd on the program all-time list.

Young also placed 4th in the shot put (17.51m) behind teammate Brandon Lloyd's season best 18.06m mark and ahead of fellow freshman Christopher Crawford's 17.22m.

Nationally qualified in the javelin, hammer, shot put, and discus, Young also placed 12th in the Rock Chalk Classic discus (48.79m) with Crawford winning the event with a 55.80m throw while Lloyd place 10th at 50.57m.

The conference weekly award is Young's fourth of the track and field season, adding the week four indoor distinctions to his now three outdoor honors.

Young and the Cougars now embark on post-season competition beginning this week at the KJCCC/Region VI Championships May 4-6 in Coffeyville, Kansas.
