The Barton Community College men's track and field team won seven events while adding three additional national qualifiers this past Sunday as the Cougars competed in the KJCCC/Region VI Invite held at Pittsburg State's Plaster Center.

Now with thirteen national qualifiers, the Cougars posted ten personal bests at the meet with two coming in the weight throw.

Placing fourth and fifth respectively, the personal best efforts reached national qualifying standards as Brandon Lloyd reached a 15.67m (51-05.00) distance while Giovanni Gutierrez was 2.75 inches behind at 15.60m (51.02.25).

Gutierrez, who picked up his first meet win of his collegiate career, took the shot put crown with a 16.57m throw as Lloyd placed third at 16.33m. The throwing duo is already nationally qualified in the shot put as Gutierrez currently ranks second with a 16.84m (55-03.00) heave while Lloyd ranks fourth at 16.63m (54-06.75).

The nation's long jump leader Shakwon Coke competed in the triple jump for the first time of the season, progressing in his first three jumps to an event winning distance of 15.41m (50-06.75). Passing on his final three attempts, the mark currently ranks third on the national qualifying list.

Less than 3-tenths of a second decided the 600m winner as Jye Gillard's 1:21.62 edge out Cedric Williams' 1:21.85 clocking. Gillard's time was slightly slower than his already qualified time with Williams' time coming just .14 seconds from reaching national meet standards.

The 4x400m relay team of Telron Bradford Jr., Gillard, Elijah Mosley, and Cedric Williams improved their qualifying time to a nation's third best, winning the event by over six seconds with a 3:13.93 clocking.
