Coke soars to nation's third best ever distance leading seven men's track and field national qualifying performances at Cowley Invite #GoBarton

The Barton Community College men's track and field team posted seven national qualifying performances Saturday competing in the Cowley Tiger Invite held in Arkansas City, KS.

The Cougars won seven of the events during the one-day meet with two performances impacting the storied Barton record book.

Shakwon Coke highlighted the day's events, competing in the outdoor long jump for the first time donning a Cougar uniform and making a national impact soaring to the 3rd best ever NJCAA distance at 8.16m (26-09.25), while ranking tied for second in Barton history with Clayton Latham ('02) and behind a half inch behind Walter Davis' 2000 top spot.

Last week in Louisiana, Fabio Hessling marked a program second best hammer throw. Saturday in Kansas Hessling rewrote his mark by six and a half feet in launching a 65.96m (216-5) throw to easily win the event. With the recent breaking of Alencar Pereira's national record of 70.21m (230-04), Hessling now sits at No. 3 in NJCAA outdoor history.

Other event winners included Denzel Feagin leading a 1-2 finish in the 100m with Caleb Boger as Feagin's 10.334 time was a .001 ahead of Boger.

Additional first line crossers were Almighty Williamson taking the 110m hurdles in 14.29, Tyrese Reid's winning 400m time of 48.78, and the 4x100m relay of Williamson, Feagin, Gamali Felix, and Boger clocking a nation's second best time of 40.43.

Fred Moudani's streak of consecutive breaking of school records ended on Saturday, winning the shot put with a still program top ten throw of 18.05m (59-02.75).

Barton will next head to Canyon, Texas for its next meet, competing in the two-day Jo Meaker Classic and Multi on Friday hosted by West Texas A&M University.
