Moudani adds second program record to profile, Hessling second best historical effort leads Barton men in outdoor track and field debut #GoBarton
A pair of storied program record lists took on new names this weekend as the Barton Community College men's track and field team opened up the outdoor season competing in the Louisiana Classic hosted by the University of Louisiana in Lafayette.
Fred Moudani ran his streak to two straight meets in breaking program records, setting the new shot put mark at 18.79m (61-07.75) in winning the event. Moudani reset the indoor shot put record at the Cougars' last competition of the indoor season, the NJCAA Indoor Championships held March 6th in Pittsburg. Giovanni Gutierrez placed behind Moudani in the event as the freshman recorded a 16.00m (52-06.00) in his collegiate outdoor debut.
Another program record list took on a new name near the top of the chart as Fabio Hessling uncorked a 64.28m (210-11) hammer throw for second best all-time in Cougar history. Placing third overall in the event, Hessling's mark is second only to Alencar Pereira's national record of 70.21m (230-04) set at the 2019 NJCAA Outdoor Championships.
The indoor national champion 4x400m relay team made their outdoor debut, placing second by .33 seconds behind the winning 3:08.20 time from LSU's "A" team tandem. The Cougars' Jevon O'Bryant put Barton slightly out in front on the first leg but the Tigers chipped away at the deficit through the next handoffs as Ja'Kwan Hale, Caleb Boger, and Gamali Felix ran with the NCAA Division I program to the end before coming up just short at 3:08.53.
Ranked as the top 400m squad in the indoor season, O'Bryant, Hale, and Telron Bradford Jr. also shined as individuals taking the top three placings. O'Bryant won the event at 47.45 with Hale just .13 seconds behind at 47.58 as Bradford crossed in third at 49.41.
Denzel Feagin challenged for the 100m title, clocking a 10.37 to finish second by .05 seconds. Boger grabbed the fourth slot of the twenty-eight man field with a 10.53 time.
Barton stays in state for its next meet, traveling to Arkansas City on Saturday for the Cowley Tiger Invitational beginning at 11:00 a.m.
