Barton men finish runner-up at Region VI Indoor Championships #GoBarton

The Barton Community College men's track and field team placed runner-up this weekend at the KJCCC/Region VI Indoor Championships held at Pittsburg State University's Robert W. Plaster Center.

The Cougars captured three individual championships amongst their seventeen scoring performances to help earn second year assistant coach Trent Edgerton the Men's Assistant Coach of the Meet. Barton accumulated 120 points over the two-day event with Cloud County Community College winning the title with 179 points as the Cougars finished 27 points ahead of third place Cowley College.

Barton track and field Assistant Coach Trent Edgerton Highlights from the two days of competition included the performance of Tyrese Reid to win the 800m. Just missing a program Top-10 his last time on the track, Reid came through on Sunday with a 1:52.03 time to land in the 8th spot all time to win the event by two seconds.

One of the remaining two Barton first place finishes came in the 400m as the Cougars went 1-2-3 in a hotly contested Heat 8 resulting in the top four finishers within .72 seconds of each other. The competition pushed Gamali Felix to record a personal best 47.95 to win the event over Jevon O'Bryant's 48.12 and Ja'Kwan Hale's 48.21.

The trio joined with Reid in another exciting finish, coming in the final Heat 3 of the meet's concluding 4x400m race, edging out the competition by a .72 second margin as the top three clocked nation leading times of just .81 seconds of difference.

Although the Cougars didn't get a victory in Saturday's weight throw, Barton did pile up nineteen points in the 2-3-4 finish behind the national leader in the event. Fabio Hessling, who already sits fourth on Barton's all-time chart, marked a runner-up 18.16m (59-07.00) with Fred Moudani taking third at 16.26m (53-04.25) and Tyler Nelson's personal best 15.10m (49-06.50) taking the fourth slot.

Barton also had four additional runner-up placings, including in the throws as Fred Moudani finished second at 17.77m (58-03.75) with Giovanni Gutierrez' personal best 16.01m (52-06.50) coming in fourth. Fabio Hessling placed just outside the top eight scoring (14.12m, 46-04.00)

Jumper Shakwon Coke earned fourteen points toward the Cougars total, placing third in Saturday's long jump at 7.19m (23-07.25) before placing behind the nation's triple jump leader in marking a 15.16m (49-09.00).

On the track a pair of bests led the Barton 200m entries as Caleb Boger and Denzel Feagin went 2-3 in each resetting their top performance in both the preliminary and final rounds. Boger clocked a season best 21.56 in prelims to better it in the finals at 21.38) while Feagin timed a season best 21.70 in prelims to then post a personal best 21.41 in the finals.

Almighty Williamson earned the other runner-up placing by clocking a 8.24 in the 60m hurdles.
