Barton track and field hauls in conference awards, Reid earns national honor #GoBarton

The Barton Community College track and field program hauled down its fair share of conference weekly awards, including the Cougars second consecutive national distinction, giving the Cougars four honors in week two of the early season

Leading the quadruplets was the national honor for Tyrese Reid, named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men's Athlete of the Week. Reid's performance this past weekend at the Texas Tech Red Raider Invitational put the sophomore in the top spot of two events for the early season lead.

Reid landed just .04 seconds outside of the Barton Top-10 record book in the 600 yard run, recording a 1:11.13 time which converted to a national 600m leading time of 1:19.67. Reid continued his solid day on the oval in the 1000m, placing third overall with a clocking of 2:37.62 (adjusted to 2:38.07), which was just off his lifetime best.

This is the fourth year in a row that a male athlete from Barton has been named National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season.

For the second consecutive week, freshman Nia Robinson earns the conference's field athlete of the week bettering her national leading triple jump mark to 12.58m (41-03.25) while soaring to a nation's second best high jump of 1.63m (5-04.25).

On the men's side of the conference awards, Ja'Kwan Hale and Fabio Hessling got the nod for the track and field awards respectively.

Hale was part of solid duo punch in 400m entrant race, winning the event by over a half second of his nearest competitor in a program fifth best clocking of 46.92. Jevon O'Bryant also hit the national leaderboard in the second spot by finishing third in the meet at 47.57.

Hessling surpassed his Coffeyville Winter Invite weight throw title by over two meters to place sixth at the Red Raider Invite with a nation leading 18.48m (60-07.00). The mark was just five inches from his program's seventh best heave but within a top twenty throw historically.

The Cougars' next meet is in Pittsburg, Kansas, for a rare Sunday competition beginning at 1:00 p.m. held at Pittsburg State University's Robert W. Plaster Center.
