Barton Track and Field shines in two states with four record book entries among thirty national qualifying performances.
The Barton Community College track and field program sent its squad to two different locations on Friday, each producing results making a splash on its illustrious record book.
As members of the throwing events made their way to Lawrence, Kansas, for the Jayhawk Classic, the larger group of track athletes headed south to Lubbock, Texas, for the Red Raider Invitational.
Shining in the two states, Barton compiled thirty results meeting national qualifying standards with four performances making an impact on program's Top-10 best ever.
Beginning the day in the 60m with all five Lady Cougar entries bettering the national qualifying time in Lubbock, Barton added many more great performances throughout the oval on the campus of Texas Tech University.
Yoveinny Mota was next in line of the day's events, placing 6th in the 60m hurdles while in the process clocking a 8.45 time to rank 5th best in program history. Also etching her name on the chart, fellow sophomore Christal Mosley took over the 7th slot on the 200m historic list with a 23.95 time to finish 7th in the event.
Among the notable men's performances on the day, Davonte Burnett set the track aflame in two events. Taking third in the 60m short track with a 6.66 time tying for the 6th fastest time in program history, Burnett performed at an even higher level in the 200m by not only winning event by clocking a 4th program best time of 20.73.
Two Cougars made their mark in the 60m hurdles with Phillip Lemonious coming up just .004 seconds shy of the title clocking a program fourth best 7.799. Not far behind in fifth place, Deshaun Jones posted a program 10th fastest 7.91 in the prelims before recording a slightly slower 7.93 in the finals.
Barton nearly had another program Top-10 impact in the 600yard race, with Tyrese Reid's national qualifying time of 1:11.35 came just .16 seconds shy of getting into the record book.
Simultaneously in Lawrence, Kansas, a pair of Cougars continued their sophomore seasons in progression mode, inching further up the program best marks in the weight throw. Phillipe Barnett moved up to the 2nd best slot with a 19.38m (63-07.00) in finishing runner-up in the event while Fiona Richards' third placing produced a 16.31m (53-06.25) mark for 7th best on the women's program chart.
