Hill and Martinez earn KJCCC week five outdoor track honors; Martinez named national field athlete of the week #GoBarton

Barton Men's Track and Field athletes Marquise Hill and Enrique Martinez

Marquise Hill and Enrique Martinez of the 2nd ranked Barton Community College track and field team earned the program another weekly conference award this season as the duo were named the week five KJCCC Kansas MTXE Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Hill, a sophomore from Maryland, finished runner-up last weekend at the Don Kirby Tailwind Collegiate Open in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the 400m Hurdles with a season best time of 51.94 for the 8th best NJCAA time this season.

The performance of the week came from Martinez in resetting the school record by over 2.5 meters with a hammer throw of 61.13m (200-07) at the 7th Annual West Texas A&M Classic and Multis in Canyon, Texas. The Classic title throw tops the NJCAA list by over six meters as the sophomore from El Salvador also broke his own Salvadorian national record in the process. Marking the third straight year the school's hammer throw has been broken, Martinez eclipsed last year's 58.59m (192-02) throw of Ricky Nelson at the Region VI Championships.

Martinez' achievement also earned the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national award earning the Cougars second straight national honor and third overall in the track and field season.

The throwing crew participated in Thursday's Bethel Invitational in Newton as the team gets much need rest and preparation for John Jacobs Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma in Norman April 20-21.
