The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their indoor regional awards recently with the Barton Community College track and field team earning forty-two All-American awards including three coaching honors. Student-athletes earned USTFCCCA All-America status by virtue of finishing among the top-8 in their events, including as a member of a relay team, at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships in Lubbock, Texas, while coaching honors were voted and selected by coaches within the USTFCCCA.
Headlining the selections were Head Coach David Schenek and Assistant Coach Mark'Quis Frazier, each being named Central Region men's coaches of the year, with Frazier adding to his credentials garnering the National men's assistant coach of the year.
Sophomore standout Sanjae Lawrence also earned honors being name the Central Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year in a record breaking season. Ranked first nationally in the shot put with a mark of 18.39m (60-4) to break the school record, Lawrence took over the top national mark in week two going on to win the Region VI championship, as well as, the national indoor championship with a throw of 18.17m as freshman teammate Kevin Nedrick placed runner-up at 17.90m.
Men's Head Coach of the Year (Central Region)
In his ninth season at the helm, Schenek led the Cougars to the program's 28th Region VI Indoor title with seven event champions and 39 qualified entries to the NJCAA Indoor Championships. The Cougars would eventually finish second at the national indoor meet as an exciting conclusion to the meet left Barton just two points shy of the title.
Men's Assistant Coach of the Year (Central Region and National)
Moving up to the head assistant coach in his second year back at his alma mater, Frazier and fellow assistant coach Remuro Henry helped lead the Cougars to their 28th region title. Primarily coaching the sprints, mid-distance and relays, Frazier coached Terence Ware to the 60 event title at the NJCAA meet which followed taking the top three placings at the region meet. Also at regionals, his 4×800 relay placed first with two top-three finishes in the 800m and 1000m while also posting three top-10 performances in the 200.

Of the eighteen All-American honors earned by the Lady Cougars at the indoor Nationals, Fiona Barnes led with three award with five others achieving multiple event honors.
