Taking the two top sprint titles, the top ranked Barton Community College men's track and field team placed nineteen in the top ten to go along with nine personal best efforts this past weekend at the 43rd annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska.

Finishing 1-2-4 in the 60m, the NJCAA second ranked short sprinter Terence Ware edged out teammate Christian Lyon by .06 seconds to take the title in 6.71. Samson Colebrooke, who upped his national standing to fifth best in the country with a 6.72 personal best time in the prelims, placed fourth in 6.82 while Demetri Keaton just missed the finals by .001 seconds in placing ninth at 6.89.

The 200m was nearly as strong for the Cougars in going 1-3-6 as Lyon gave Barton three 200m titles in four meets so far this season with a 21.55 with Colebrooke's 21.59 placing third. Dartez Hamlin, who won the event in consecutive weeks to begin the season, place sixth in just .10 behind Lyon with a 21.65.

Reigning conference field athlete of the week Bradley Fleurinord tied a personal best for the second straight week in the long jump, leaping 7.27m (23-10.25) to give Barton another runner-up finish by just two inches of the title. Alvin McCray also placed in the event with a seventh place 6.98m (22-11.00) jump while Travis Hugg placed 15th at 6.75m (22-01.75)

School record shot put holder Sanjae Lawrence finished runner-up in the event, launching a school second best mark of 18.18m (59-07.75) while Kevin Nedrick placed 12th with a 16.79m (55-01.00) heave.

Barton capped their weekend with a season best effort in the 4x400m relay, as the tandem of Kenroy Williams, Hugg, Hilton McClain, Jr., and Colebrooke clocked a NJCAA second best time of 3:12.09.

The Cougars will take the next two weeks in preparation of the conference and region indoor championships. The two-day multi-event championships will take place Thursday and Friday, February 15-16, in Highland, Kansas, with the remaining championships taking place on Sunday, February 18, at Ahearn Fieldhouse in Manhattan.
