Cougars send abbreviated squad to KT Woodman Classic

Coming off an overall best performance of the year a week ago in Texas, the Barton Community College men's track and field team sent a much smaller squad to Wichita this past weekend, placing fifth overall in the annual two day KT Woodman Classic held at Cessna Stadium.  

Javon Patterson was the lone new Cougar national qualifier coming out of the event as his fifth place 1:53.89 surpassed the needed standards.

Having already put four on the 100m qualified list, Christian Lyon led the four Cougars in the top nine at the Classic by edging out teammate Chedlin Sagesse by .02 in taking gold at 10.33.  Sagesse reset his new best time clocking a 10.28 in the prelims with McKinely West, who clocked a new personal best and national leading time of 10.05 in the prelims, sat out the finals while Samson Colebrooke finished just outside the finals list with a personal best 10.50, to finish ninth.

Sanjae Lawrence raised his top NJCAA mark while taking over the No. 2 spot in the school record book in winning the shot put at 17.73m (58-02).

Kevin Turner's 14.24 reset his new best 110m hurdle time in finishing third in the event with Jermaine Jones clocking a 14.55 in placing fifth.

Stevon Crooks bettered his discus throw mark for a sixth place finish at 47.41m (155-6). The 4x100m relay team of Adam Levarity, Jones, Turner and Mighty took third in 41.19 and Alfredo Smith was eighth in the long jump at 22-8.5.

The Cougars' next meet will be a long road trip as Barton heads south to Barton Rouge, Louisiana, for the weekend's LSU Alumni Gold.
