Trophy comes home, Barton Track and Field teams place third and fourth nationally

The Barton Community College track and field teams both finished amongst the nation's elite as the men captured the third place trophy while the women fell just three points shy of grabbing the third spot to finish in fourth.

The Cougars had one individual championship coming from freshman Sanjae Lawrence capturing the shot put to lead Barton's 70.5 total points to distance Region VI foe Butler's 53 points while finishing behind champion's Iowa Central's 124 and South Plains' 104.5.

The Lady Cougars compiled 70 points, well ahead of fifth place finisher Central Arizona's 39 and three shy of third place South Plains' 73.  Former Cougar coach Keith Blackwill's New Mexico squad captured the title with 121 as Iowa Central with another former Barton coach, assistant Nigel Bigbee, came up five points short with 116 points.

Ayesha Champagnie defended her pentathlon title to leadoff the two-day meet with the 4x400m relay team of Rian Robinson, Chenelle Ricketts, Sabrina Mason, and Latoya Stewart concluding the weekend with a 3:38.93 meet record to etch their names amongst the great Barton relay teams in the fourth spot in school history.
