No. 2 ranked Barton track and field posts season bests at Jayhawk Classic

Like their women counterparts, the No. 2 ranked Barton Community College men's track and field team had another solid meet on Friday posting fifteen personal best efforts in grabbing a combined eight top three finishes at the Jayhawk Classic hosted by the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.

Jermaine Jones re-established his name at the top of the 60m hurdle national bests clocking a personal best 7.89 to take the title with Kevin Turner's eight best national time of 8.21 erasing his personal best in finishing third.

The Cougars continued their dominance in the 60m short track taking home the title to go along with three top six placing.  Chedlin Sagesse led the charge to the title win a personal best 6.76 for fourth place on the national chart joining McKinely West second best national time giving the Cougars two in the top four.  Samson Colebrooke also sped down the straightway in personal best time, clocking a 6.80 to jump in the national top ten list.  West took fourth in 6.83 while Terence Ware grabbed the sixth spot in 6.94.

Javon Patterson might have found a new event during the day competing in the 800m for the first time to seize the title by .01 in an eight best national time of 1:58.16.

Alvin McCray rose high for a personal best 1.99m (6-06.25) to finish second in the high jump edging out teammate Willie Rodgers for the runner-up finish on jumps as the two tied for the same height.

In the morning session events, Barton took second in both the 600y and 400m.  Hilton McClain crossed the 600y line just .27 seconds behind in the second spot clocking a personal best 1:14.73.  Also recording personal bests, Marquise Hill and Donneldo Harris finished second and sixth in the 400m with a 51.14 and 53.46 respectively.  Deandre Jobe ran the afternoon 600y session finishing fourth in a personal best 1:13.32 to land amongst the nation's top ten times.

The field events were also strong for Barton with freshman Sanjae Lawrence leading the Cougars to three top six placings in the shot put.  Lawrence's personal best throw third place throw of 16.98m (55-08.50) jumped into the nation's top two being joined by Stevon Crooks fourth place finish of 16.74m (54-11.25) taking the sophomore's best throw to No. 4 in the nation.  Ricky Nelson also put up a personal best effort of 15.45m (50-08.25) to rank just outside the top ten in the thirteenth position.   Nelson, who has the third best weight throw mark, was joined in the top ten by freshman Enrique Martinez who finished fifth in the event for a personal best 15.99m (52-05.50) in ranking tenth.

Barton also put two in the top eight of the long jump led by Alfredo Smith's third place jump of  6.94m (22-09.25) while Willie Rogers competed in the event for the first time finishing eight at 6.51m (21-04.25).

The 4x400m relay team also brought home a third place finish as Deshon Buchanan, Christian Lyon, McClain, and Adam Levarity clocked a 3:19.85.

The Cougars will next compete on Friday and Saturday, February 3-4, at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska.
