Small Cougar squad competes at Cavalier Night Relays;  Lady Cougars take three events

The Barton Community College track and field team split their squad this weekend with one small group of men and women competing Friday evening in the Cavalier Night Relays hosted by Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas.

On the men's side the Cougars saw the debut of Jose Yanes, finishing ninth in the 1 mile run with a time of 4:54.62.  Lukas Tucker was the only other Cougar running on the day, finishing 18th in the 800m run in a time of 2:17.70.

Emilykate Hopson-Boyd and Mirena Goncalves led the Lady Cougars capturing a combined three events.  With both running the events for the first time in their collegiate careers, Hobson-Boyd captured the 600m run in 1:42.98 while Goncalves swept both the 1000m and 1 Mile in times of 3:11.19 and 5:21.69 respectively.  Wilyeska Suarez also joined Goncalves in both events taking home sixth place finishes in both clocking a 3:12.00 and 5:44.73.  Mariah Stein also grabbed a top ten finish coming in ninth.

The Lady Cougars also entered a 4x400m relay team in the event finishing fifth in in a time of 4:41.40.

Barton's next action comes Friday as the Cougar squads travel to Lawrence, Kansas, for the second time in the young season, competing in the one day Jayhawk Classic hosted by the University of Kansas.
