Barton men’s track and field sets fifteen new personal bests at Tiger Invite

The Barton Community College men's track and field team took another break from a powerhouse meet competing this past Friday at the 12th annual Tiger Invitational hosted by Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kansas.  The Lady Cougars competed against fellow NJCAA members, as well as, colleges and universities from the NAIA ranks.  The Cougars posted seven national qualifying performances while setting fifteen new personal best marks.

The Cougars placed three in the top five of both the 100m and 200m races.  Marquee Montgomery led the short race with a second place finish clocking a national qualifying and new personal best time of 10.60 just edging out Kennedy Mayweather's personal best third place time of 10.68 and Shadrack Adu-Gyamfi's 10.72 time.  Ashawn Bryan rounded out the 100m entries with an 11.36 11th place finish just missing out on a new personal best.

Alexander Richemond and Anthony Adderly went 1-2 in the 200m as both clocked personal best national qualifying times of 21.20 and 21.35 respectively.  Montgomery set his second personal best exceeding his time from last week's meet by .43 to finish fourth in 21.67.

Brady Holler led two Barton entries in the 800m finishing in 12th place at 2:05.54 while Kole Stiner set a personal best at 2:12.83 competing in the event for the first time outdoors.

Elder Colindres took off nearly ten seconds from his last week's 1500m personal best to come in 4th in 4:12.48.  Like Stiner in the 800m, Anthony Forrest ran the 1500m for the first time outdoors setting a personal best 4:25.13 to finish 15th while Tyler Thornton came in 21st at 4:28.76.  Marcus Pastran also had a good event shaving seven seconds off his best coming in 27th at 4:31.56.

The duo of Deron Gordon and Zodani Francois each blazed the 110m Hurdle event placing third and fourth respectively.  Competing in the event for the first time, Gordon clocked the nation's fifth fastest time of 14.34 while Francois exceeded his personal best by .28 seconds in a seventh best national time of 14.60.

Barton sent four entries into the Discus Throw event, led by the personal best and nation's sixth best throw of 47.76m (156-08.00) from first place finisher Romario Antoine.  Having already qualified in the event, Donald Daley exceeded the national mark again placing third with a 46.66m heave.   Competing in the event for only the second time in his two years at Barton, Alireza Rafiei exceeded his distance recorded at last year's Tiger Invite by over eight meters in finishing eighth at 40.44m.  Tyler Jordan rounded out the entries coming in fourteenth at 35.79m.

Daley and Jordan both set personal bests in the Hammer Throw placing third and sixth respectively.  Daley's best 48.27m fell just .02 shy of a national qualifying mark while Jordan's 41.86m was five meters beyond his best mark set last week in Hays.  Antoine was the lone entry in the Shot Put placing fifth at 14.53m.

The Cougars return to action on Friday as Barton will head to Wichita, Kansas, to compete in the two-day K.T. Woodman Classic.
