The No. 21 ranked Barton Community College men's tennis team found Thursday's action in Arkansas City a tough day on the court in a pair of losses as the Cougars fell 9-0 to conference foe and host 8th ranked Cowley College before dropping a 6-3 defeat to No. 9 New Mexico Military Institute.

Now 3-6 on the season, Barton's next opportunity will come this Sunday as the Cougars host Iowa Central Community College at Veterans Park beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 5:00 p.m. dual with Bethany College.

Barton had very little success against the Tigers in the opener with 43rd ranked Marcel Miasato winning the most games in falling 6-4, 6-2 against Angelo Yasuro Ito Tost.

Thales Machado de Souza and Tinashe Muzenyi had their modest two match winning streak snapped in an 8-3 loss to Cowley but rebounded for an 8-2 win over NMMI's Ned Merrion and Orlando Santillanes for the Cougars' lone doubles victory.

Each would also pick up the lone singles' wins of the day with Machado earning a hard fought 6-4, 6-3, victory over Merrion in the No. 5 matchup. Muzenyi, who had won five straight matches before losing 6-2, 6-0, to the Tigers' Casey Edwards, ended the day on a high note hanging a pair of 6-0 sets victories in the No. 6 match over Santillanes to improve to 5-4 on the year.

Traveling with the women's squad to Oklahoma on Friday, weather wiped out the Cougars' schedule match with No. 6 Seminole State College.
