No. 16 Barton Tennis concludes regular season with conference loss to No. 9 Cowley

The No. 16 ranked Barton Community College men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season on Tuesday, dropping a 9-0 conference loss to No. 9 Cowley College at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts.   The Cougars will take the next ten days trading the competitive court to the practice court in preparation of hosting the Region VI Championship April 22-23.

Marcel Miasato and Juan Navarro hung in their No. 1 doubles match before losing 8-5 to Guilhermo Dos Santos and Lukas Michenka.  Dos Santos, who is unranked nationally since not arriving to Cowley until the start of the spring semester, proved he will be a force in the upcoming region tournament dispelling the No. 26 ranked Miasato in 6-1 straight sets.  Navarro's singles match also was against a formidable region force as No. 17 Lucas Freitas won 6-2, 6-4.

The tandem of Giovanni Fragalle and Kaio Massao Sato battled valiantly in the No. 2 pairing but the Tigers' Julien Aubry-Damon and Jose Castro were too much in winning 8-4.   Fragelle would match up with Michenka in the No. 3 singles match losing 6-2, 6-1, while Sato would face Aubry-Damon again in the No. 4 slot with the No. 35 ranked Tiger winning 6-1, 6-0.

Cowley dominated the No. 3 doubles, as well as, the last two singles matches.  Juan Diego Jaimes and Triston Herbst were no match for the Tigers' Freitas and Christian Borrero losing 8-1 with Jaimes dropping the No. 5 singles to Ronald Rufyikiri in straight set 6-1, 6-0 scores.  Ray Strunk, who did not play in the doubles pairings, lost to Castro 6-2, 6-1, putting the final dagger in the nine point Barton loss.
