Navarro knocks off nationally ranked player, No. 16 Cougars go 1-2 against ranked opponents

The No. 16 ranked Barton County Community College men's tennis team went 1-2 this weekend at the Seminole State College Dual Match Invite held at the Oklahoma Tennis Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The Cougars began the weekend on Friday with an 8-1 loss to No. 3 ranked and host Seminole and a 5-3 loss to No. 12 Jacksonville College before concluding with a 5-4 win over No. 20 New Mexico Military Institute.   Now 6-7 on the season, the Cougars return to conference action on Tuesday in welcoming No. 9 ranked Cowley College for a 1:00 p.m. duel at Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts.

The opening match against third ranked Seminole didn't provide a lot of highlights with an exception of a big win coming in the No. 1 doubles matchup as Marcel Miasato and Juan David Navarro knocked off the Trojans' Gueninle Ouattara and Innoncent Tidimane 9-7.

The duo would keep the momentum rolling into the afternoon match against Jacksonville's Andres Graterol and Cristian Pons 8-3 before parting way and capturing each's singles matches as well.  No. 26 ranked Miasato had a marathon duel coming out on top 4-6, 6-4, 10-6, over Graterol while Navarro, who sat out play in the morning singles matches, registered a hard fought straight set 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), victory.  Navarro would run his record to 7-2 on the year on Saturday winning his sixth straight racking up a 6-1, 6-4, straight set win at the No. 1 slot over No. 13 ranked Noureldin Adam of NMMI.

Aside from Miasato and Navarro's big weekend, Juan Diego Jaimes picked up the lone other victory on the weekend winning the No. 4 singles Saturday in a 10-7 tie-breaker over Atteh Gabriel after winning splitting 6-3 sets.
