The No. 16 ranked Barton Community College men's tennis team improved to 4-4 on the season with a 6-3 victory Saturday at Great Bend's Veteran's Memorial Park tennis courts over NCAA Division II Colorado Christian University. Barton returns to the Vets Park courts on Monday for a pair of matches, beginning with the conference opening match versus No. 4 ranked Seward County Community College at 9:00 a.m. followed with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match against Iowa Central Community College.
Barton won two of the three doubles matches, splitting the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by identical 8-5 scores as Marcel Miasato and Juan Navarro took the No. 1 over CCU's Nic Hoime and Chase Gebhart with CCU's Trent Streitelmeier and Barrett Cooper defeating Giovanni Fragalle and Kaio Massao Sato. The No. 3 duo of Juan Diego Jaimes and Lucas Castelani gave the Cougars a 2-1 match lead knocking off CCU's Ryder Serle and Caleb Rold by an 8-3 score.
In the singles matches, Barton won four of the six with the two losses coming in the tiebreaker. No. 26 ranked Miasato dispatched Hoime 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 1 match with Fragalle caputirng the No. 3 match over Streitelmeier 6-4, 6-2. Barton swept the final two singles matches with Jaimes winning 6-3, 6-1, over Brian Bell in the No. 5 while Ray Strunk won the No. 6 match 6-4, 6-2, over Serle.
The Cougars lone two singles losses came on identical 7-5, 0-6, 10-6, scores as Thales Machado lost to Gebhart in the No. 2 while Massao Sato lost to Cooper in the No. 4.
