Barton Tennis falls in home opener

The Barton County Community College men's tennis team came up short in their home opener Friday losing 6-3 to Colorado Christian University.   Played at the Veterans Memorial Park tennis courts, the Cougars started the dual with two victories in the doubles but stumbled in the singles matches dropping all but one of the six matches.   The 0-2 Cougars will have a busy week ahead playing two matches beginning with Thursday's 2:00pm dual at Tabor College before a Saturday 11:00 a.m. dual at Bethany College.

Picking up Barton's first win of the day was the No. 3 duo of Triston Herbst and Cole Hardin with an 8-3 victory over CCU's Trent Strietelmeier and David Horner.  The No. 2 doubles team of Luis Soares and Ray Struck gave the Cougars their second win of the three doubles matches with an 8-5 win over Mitch Swim and Chase Gebhart.

Strunk grabbed the lone singles victory in the No. 4 match outlasting Swim 6-2, 4-6, and 10-8.  No. 1 singles player Lucas Castelani battled back after dropping the first set 6-4 to take the second 6-4 but fell in the tiebreaker 10-6.
