Cougar Tennis begins play in Region VI

With disappointing results in last year's Region Tournament, the Barton Community College men's tennis team looks to avenge last season as the team begin region tournament play Friday held at Wichita's Riverside Tennis Center.

Vinicius Ono drew the third seed in the No. 1 Singles, set to play the nation's No. 9 ranked player Harry Busby of Cowley College in the 10:45 a.m. match.  Johnson County's Spartak Rahachou, the No. 8 ranked player in the nation, drew the top seed.  Complete No. 1 Bracket

Alvaro Martinez takes the lone top singles seed for the Cougars into the tournament and will play the 12:00 p.m. match against the winner of Johnson County's Kevin Kochersperger and Drew Hostetler of Hesston College.  Looming on the bottom side of the bracket is the nation's No. 18 ranked Erik Eldagsen of Cowley College and Seward County's Alejandro Gonzalez who is ranked No. 20.   Complete No. 2 Bracket

Fourth seeded Jeret Johnson will play the opening round play in match against Hesston College's Yuu Sakaguchi in the 9:30 a.m. match for the right to play the bracket's top seed Joshua Coleman who also comes in at No. 26 nationally.  Complete No. 3 Bracket

Nicholas Moyers got the nod for the third seed at the No. 4 singles.  He'll take on Johnson County's Jose Torres in the 10:45 a.m. match.  Complete No. 4 Bracket

Also drawing third seeds and taking on Johnson County opponents in 10:30 a.m. matches are Austin Jacobs in the No. 5 bracket and Chase Buntain in the No. 6.  Jacobs will take on Kris Snyder while Buntain will take on Nick Urban.

The dynamic duo of Ono and Martinez will take the top spot into their 4:00 p.m. match.  The pair will play the winner of the pay in match of Seward County and Hesston College.  Most likely it will be the Saints from Seward County as the No. 5 ranked duo of Ronzai Saurombe and Alejandro Gonzalez are the fall ITA National Champions and will be seeking revenge from Barton's 8-4 win earlier this season when the pair was ranked No. 1 in the nation.  Complete No. 1 Doubles Bracket

Johnson and Moyers will have to take the long road in the No. 2 doubles as they drew the play in game as the fourth seed.  The pair will take on Hesston College's Eric Cender and Yuu Sakaguchi at 2:30 p.m. with the right to take on the top seed in the 4:00 p.m. match.  Complete No. 2 Doubles Bracket

Jacobs and Buntain will have the 2:30 p.m. match as the second seed in the No. 3 doubles taking on Johnson County's Jose Torres and Jeff Stevens.   Complete No. 3 Doubles Bracket
