Barton swimming teams finish runner-up at Kansas Collegiate Showcase
Returning to the pool after a near three-week layoff, the Barton Community College swimming teams displayed their best results of the season this past weekend at the Kansas Collegiate Showcase.
Competing against in-state four-year programs of Sterling College and the University of St. Mary's University, the Cougars constructed runner-up finishes on both sides with the men accumulating 361 points and the women producing 379.
In the midst of a three weekend stretch, Barton will hit the midway point this weekend for the Drury Invitational held Friday and Saturday in Springfield, MO before concluding the first semester at the Eagle Invitational November 10th-12th.
Men Recap
The Barton men were dominate over the weekend claiming 16 of the 24 events while rewriting 12 new top-10 program times, 19 new personal bests and 16 new season best marks.
Four different Cougars claimed multi-events led by Louis Ainley and Dominik Strba's four golds apiece while Konrad Kozlowski added two and Ethan Baylin adding one.
Ainley's four top times were attained in the 50-breaststroke (26.03) leading a clean 1, 2, 3 Barton sweep, 100-breaststroke (56.51), 50-butterfly (23.20), 100-backstroke (54.08). Strba's pack of four were won over the 200-butterfly (1:56.25), 200-IM (2:05.85), 200-breaststroke (2:10.62) that lead Barton's other 1, 2, 3 podium achievement and 400-IM (4:10.99).
Long distance specialist Kozlowski landed his three victories in the 1650-freestyle (17:30.32), 1000-freestyle (10:11.46) and 500-freestyle (4:50.69).
Rounding out the individual top finishes was Baylin's 50-freestyle (21.29).
Barton claimed three of the four team events 200-medley (1:34.36), 800-freestyle (7:17.78), 400-medley (3:34.76), 400-freestyle (3:16.21).
Women Recap
Over the course of the weekend the Lady Cougars constructed a new program record, 13-new top-10 best times, 21 new personal bests and 18 season best stoppages. Hazel Bentley and Silvana Jacquez Viveros highlighted the weekend racking up six of the 11 victories over the two-day event.
Bentley won her three in the 1650-freestyle (18:50.39), 200-butterfly (2:16.68), and 400-IM (4:51.61) while Viveros collected her trio in the 50-backstroke (30.31), 100-backstroke (1:05.39), and 200-backstroke (2:21.15).
Other first place finishers were Elena Lara's pair of golds in the 500-freestyle (5:34.19) and 100-butterfly (1:03.20), Claire Holt leading a three-clain of Cougars to a 1, 2, 3 sweep in the 50-butterfly (28.39), and Rachel Sims claiming the lone diving event with a 1-meter mark (233.80).
Barton's lone program record breaker came in the 400-meadley relay with the four-pack of Jacquez, Holt, Lara and Caroline Tipton clocking a (3:54.35) for a runner-up finish.
The lone team victory came in the 800-freestyle relay with Lara, Maria Orlandi Genizelli, Tipton and Bentley edging the field of three (8:39.65).
