Carrillo becomes Cougars' first ever repeat National Champion; Barton men third after day one at the NJCCA Championships #GoBarton

The Barton Community College men's swimming team wrote history at the NJCAA National Championships held in Fort Pierce, Florida Wednesday evening as Johan Cue Carrillo became the program's first ever repeat National Champion in the 50-breaststroke.

The Cougars concluded the first of the four-day meet in third place totaling 138 points falling 17.5 back of runner-up Southwestern Oregon Community College's 155.5 total while holding a 36.5 edge on fourth place Iowa Central Community College. Looking for their 48th straight title, host school Indian River State College leads the nine-entry team field with 299 points.

Day two action will continue Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. (CT) from the historic Anne Wilder Aquatic Complex with seven more events on tap.

As a squad the Cougars conducted one national champion, one new program best, 13 personal bests, seven new program top-10 times and a trio of top-five performances.

Entered in just one event on the day, Carrillo displayed the third fastest time in the morning's 50 breaststroke preliminaries, but the sophomore cranked it up a notch in the evening's portion generating his season best stoppage of 20.60 repeating as champion for the first time in the program's history.

Freshman Tyler Woodworth made an impressive NJCAA National Championship debut producing the lone program record breaker with a fourth-place finish in the 50-freestyle producing a time of 20.60 leaping three spots up from his preliminary seventh ranked 21.03 time.

Joshua-Ryan Lujan manufactured a successful day acquiring a pair of seventh place finishes. The sophomore rewrote a pair of his program best marks set earlier in the morning clocking a program fifth best time of 26.58 in the 50 breaststroke and fourth fastest program stoppage of 1:57.39 in the 200 IM.

Contending in shorter distance events at last years' National Championships, Isaiah Auld fabricated the final individual podium finish with an eighth place showing in the 1000 freestyle tapping the wall with the third fastest time in the program's record book of 9:49.24. 

Barton concluded the final event with a team podium appearance with Auld opening the fourth place 4x800 freestyle relay combined with Josias Solarte, Justus Hampton and Enzo Vogt da Silva constructing a 7:03.72 falling just two ticks off the four-packs season best time.
