Barton Men's Soccer result at Garden City

The 7th ranked Barton Community College men's team scored in each half Wednesday evening for a 2-0 victory at Garden City Community College.

Barton stays atop the conference standings with the victory improving to 4-0-1 in conference play and 7-0-2 on the year while Garden City drops to 0-3-2 in league and 5-3-3 overall.

On Saturday the Cougars make a dip into southwest Kansas for a 3:00 p.m. kick at first-year program Seward County Community College.

The Cougars came out firing early at Broncbuster Stadium, executing six well-played scoring chances in the first eight minutes including five in the first five minutes to outshoot Garden City during first half action 18-2 and 8-1 between the pipes.

Following the barrage of Barton's opening shots, Garden City nearly grabbed the early lead nine minutes into the contest but Reigning KJCCC goalkeeper of the week Dennis Bottcher turned back the lone Broncbuster first half shot on goal with a big save snuffing out a 1v1 situation.

A collegiate first provided the eventual game winner with a mere 2:30 left before halftime, Isoumail Camara slipping behind the defense in putting away Henrique Cruz' chip into the box for his fourth assist of the year.

Play battled back and forth in second half action with Barton owning a 10-6 shot advantage as both teams put three towards frame.

A Garden City foul helped Barton create an insurance goal with 18:49 remaining as a pair of season firsts connected in Nicolas Galanis' free kick being met by a leaping Samuel Joerg for the put-away header in just his third game appearance of the year.

Bottcher, who moved to 5-0-2 on the year, rejected Garden City's attempt on a corner kick with just over eleven to play before giving way to Victor Chavez' late save in the final 10:07 of action.
