Cougars hold off upset bid, 11th ranked Barton men's soccer wins 1-0 over Jefferson College #GoBarton

Barton men's soccer player Yeshua Corrales celebrates his first collegiate goal

The only thing that went as planned Sunday morning at the Cougar Soccer Complex was a home victory as the 11th ranked Barton Community College men's team held off Jefferson College's upset bid 1-0.

The victory improves Barton to 4-0-1 on the season in keeping Jefferson winless on the year at 0-6-0.  In the following additional matchup to close out the Barton Classic, 12th ranked Indian Hills Community College benefitted from a man-up advantage situation over Otero College by forty seconds later netting the tying goal with 18:41 remaining as the teams played to a 2-2 draw.  The result moved Indian Hills to 3-1-2 on the year while Otero College leaves Great Bend still unbeaten at 4-0-1.

Barton shifted its lineup against the Vikings but couldn't rattle the nets despite controlling most of the possessions.  The game plan shifted just twenty minutes into the contest as the Cougars went a man down due to a second yellow card violation forcing Head Coach Rafael Simmons to rework substitutions and other players back into lineup.

The Cougars held a 7-1 shot advantage including a pair of shots on target in first half action, finally breaking through 12:03 into the final period on Yeshua Corrales' first collegiate net shaker in putting away Loic Kanku's cross for his first collegiate assist.

Jefferson produced chances to tie the contest, the best coming just forty seconds prior to the Cougars' lone goal on a breakaway behind the defense but the chipped shot sailed just high of the crossbar.

Victor Chavez worked the first 64:50 between the pipes to earn his first collegiate victory as Dennis Bottcher guarded the final 25:10 helping Barton post their second shutout of the season.
