Cougars fall 2-1 in overtime #GoBarton

Barton's Ivan Zuniga fighting for possession against Dodge City defender

The Barton Community College men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss Wednesday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex, falling to Dodge City Community College 2-1 in the 99th minute of overtime.

The loss drops the Cougars to 1-2-0 in KJCCC play and 4-4-0 overall while the Conquistadors put to rest a three game skid moving to 1-2-0 in conference play and 2-3-0 on the season. Barton will look to get back on track Saturday as they head out on the road for a 4:00 p.m. kick against Johnson County Community College.

The Cougars found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard in the 38th minute as Dodge City's David Straube placed Teshepiso Mokwatski's indirect free kick inside the upper-90 corner near post from just outside the 10' giving the Conquistadors the early 1-0 advantage.

Trailing 1-0 over the next 58-minutes, Barton grasped some life in the 88th minute as a loose ball grasping the hands of a Conquistador resulting in a penalty kick. Reigning KJCCC Player of the Week Victor Lucca provided the equalizer lighting the lamp for the fifth time this season.

In the extra frame, Barton's Tajay Grant nearly provided the game winner in the opening minute as his chip shot attempt sailed just high.

Just seven-minutes later, Dodge City's Diego Marcelino Olivares hit the game winner for the Conquistadors as Elia Atay's cross setup Mokwatsi's thru ball finding the uncovered Olivares.

Despite falling on the short end of the scoreboard the Cougars outshot the opposition 13-7.
