17th ranked Cougars score five unanswered powering into Sunday's Championship with 5-2 victory over Coffeyville #GoBarton

Barton men's soccer player Ivan Zuniga launches a shot

The 17th ranked Barton Community College men's soccer team scored five unanswered Saturday in a dominating 5-2 victory over Coffeyville Community College at Wichita's Stryker Sports Complex sending the Cougars into Sunday's Region VI/Plains District Championship game.

Improving to 11-2-1 on the year, Barton will face 13th ranked Cowley College (11-2-0) in the Sunday 5:00 p.m. title game as the Tigers survived Dodge City Community College's upset bid in a 4-3 double overtime thriller.  Coffeyville, the KJCCC East Champions, complete the season at 9-3-1 while Dodge City's season completes at 4-6-2.

Barton was the early aggressor creating a trio of scoring opportunities but it was Coffeyville who got on the board first in cleaning up a deflected shot to take the lead at the 27:20 mark.

Five minutes later Gabrielle Privitera dished out the equalizer as Ivan Zuniga drilled lower corner far post for his second goal of the year.

The goal reignited the Cougars' attack and less than five minutes more off the clock Privitera's deflected shot found the foot of Genildo Postimo for a low near post blast for his 3rd of the season.

Outshooting the Red Ravens 6-3 in first half action, the Cougars limited Coffeyville to just three more shots while keeping on the attack for eleven more in final frame.  Three of those came early in the second period as Felipe D'Agostini clanked the post twice with a third shot just outside the frame and Shizu Yohena also coming up just shy of the frame in the first ten minutes.

Barton finally got the break through goal with 26:46 remaining as Pedro Maximiano found Pasquale Degaetano just inside the eighteen for a far post net rattler.  Five minutes later Degaetano followed up his first collegiate goal with his second on a one-timer strike off of Vladyslav Peretyatko's blocked shot putting the Cougars up 4-1 with 21:01 to play.

History was made on Barton's fifth goal as Privitera etched his name on Barton's top ten scoring list sending a laser dead central of the frame for his 4th goal of the year pushing the margin to four with 10:45 to play.

The Red Ravens kept pushing til the end, finding the net again with 3:16 left in closing out the scoring.
