The 17th ranked Barton Community College men's soccer team jumped on Kansas City Kansas Community College early and often in cruising to a 4-1 victory Wednesday afternoon in closing out Cougar Field undefeated during the season.
Barton improves to 10-2-1 on the campaign advancing to Saturday's 6:00 p.m. semifinals held at Wichita's Stryker Sports Complex against Coffeyville Community College. KCK ends the year at 5-5-1.
RECAP
Barton outshot the Blue Devils 11-1 in the first forty-five minutes, peppering the frame eight times with three finding the net in the game's first twenty-two minutes.
A KCK turnover deep in their own end proved costly as the Cougars' Shizu Yohena took the ball and sent forward to Felipe D'Agostini in the corner who then sent a cross to Vladyslav Peretyatko on the backside in burying it near post for his 4th of season.
Seven minutes later off a corner kick, Gabrielle Privitera's send-in was met by the rise-n-shine header of Ricardo Sepulveda as the 2019 Jayhawk West's Defensive Player of the Year rattled the net near post for his first collegiate goal.
Another seven minutes off the clock and Barton had a 3-0 lead in part to a KCK miscue coming out of the eight yard box. Attempting to clear the ball, Genildo Postimo put himself in the right place at the right time in blocking the attempt right back to center net for his 2nd of year.
The Cougars again outshot KCK in second half play, launching 12 shots to the Blue Devils' three. Shots on frame Barton launched eight with KCK putting two between the pipes.
KCK put the first score on the board in second half action with 26 minutes left creating a breakdown in the Barton defense as Ronin Richardson's forward pass found Carlos Rodriguez splitting the defense for a 1v1 winning battle past reigning National Goalkeeper of the Week Yuki Nishigaki.
Three minutes later Barton responded on the offensive end as D'Agnostini's through ball found Privitera slipping behind defense to beat KCK's Christian Villegas 1v1 near post.
Privitera's 5th goal of the year produced his 54th career point, moving into the 11th spot on the program's all-time list, while his earlier assist inches to within two of the fourth best career chart sitting at 16.
