Cougars' seventh shutout of the season nets 4-0 victory at Northwest Tech #GoBarton

The Barton Community College men's soccer team registered its seventh shutout of the year in concluding the regular season with a 2-0 victory Monday at Northwest Kansas Technical College. The Cougars put the game winner on the board just four minutes into the contest before tacking on three second half goals in defeating the Mavericks twice in the last five days. The fourth straight victory wraps up the second seeded Cougars' regular season at 8-3-1 in region play and 12-5-1 overall while Northwest needs a Tuesday victory over Hesston College to make the Region VI playoffs sitting at 5-6 and 7-7-1 on the year.

Barton will host the first round of the region playoffs on Thursday against Cowley College in a time yet to be determined with the winner advancing to Sunday's second round.

Having scored five goals last season, Alexander Kay picked an opportune time to net the first of his sophomore year, scoring the game winner just 4:03 into the contest in finishing off the executed play from Benjamin Zamora and Steve Taylor. The assist moved Zamora to the top of the team leaderboard with seven on the sophomore's season while Taylor distributed the second of his freshman campaign.

Barton put three on the board in the final half of play with Taylor rattling the nets for the second time of the year finishing off Cyprien N'goma's second assist. Team leading goal scorer Colin Roemer upped his freshman tally to eleven giving Chris Camilli his first assist in pushing the lead out to three with just under nineteen minutes left in the game. Teppei Negami closed out the scoring with just 1:35 on the clock netting the Japan freshman's first collegiate goal.

Getting another stingy effort from the defensive side of the ball, goalkeeper Luciano Trasolini helped keep the net clean turning back three Maverick shots.
