Explosive Cougars attack No. 6 Trinidad State 7-2 to complete weekend sweep of ranked opponents #GoBarton

For the second day in a row the Barton Community College men's soccer team knocked off a ranked opponent as the Cougars' 7-2 win over No. 6 ranked Trinidad State Junior College completed the Barton Classic sweep held at the Cougar Soccer Complex. Barton notched its first goal just 1:14 into the contest before adding two more net shakers in the opening ten minutes to claim a 5-0 halftime lead before the teams traded goals in second half action. Receiving votes in the national pre-season poll, Barton improves to 3-0 on the young season as Trinidad State leaves Great Bend with a pair of losses dropping to 1-2 on the season. Next up for the Cougars is a trip to Sedalia, Missouri, on Thursday for a 4:00 p.m. kick at State Fair Community College.

In the Classic finale, No. 11 ranked Eastern Florida State College led by former Barton head coach Oliver Twelvetrees also jumped out to a five goal halftime lead before tacking on six in the final forty-five to destroy No. 18 ranked Laramie County Community Junior College 11-2. The Titans received two-hat tricks in the game, one coming from Jimmy Mwanga while Danilo Orsi Dadomo put up a double-double effort with three goals and three assists.  Eastern Florida's sweep of the Classic improves the Titans to 2-0 while Laramie County opens the season 0-2.

As scoring was distributed amongst eight different Cougars, Colin Roemer would have another big day leading the way with two goals and getting the first of his two assists in the game setting up Barton's first goal as just 1:14 clicked off the clock. Receiving a through ball from Jose Escobedo, Roemer's blast was deflected by the Trojans goalkeeper Rodolfo Reyes but the rebound came back to Escobedo where the Salina sophomore hammered in the rebound for his first of the season.

Roemer dished out the second goal seven minutes later collapsing the defense before finding Filippo Reggio for a strike far post earning the Italian's first collegiate goal. Just shy of two minutes later, Roemer collected his first of two goals taking as Hiroo Kimura's cross to Escobedo was one-touched to Roemer giving Barton a 3-0 edge just 9:42 into the game.

The quick strike Cougars increased the lead to 5-0 as Benjamin Zamora's perfect lead pass found Venzuela freshman Chris Camilli for his first goal with Zamora also getting his first goal of the year just 1:50 later as the Chilean sophomore cleaned up Reggio's blocked shot.

Pitching a shutout despite starting defender Boris Nana Tonzi serving a suspension due to consecutive yellow cards on Friday, Trinidad State was able to crack the Cougars for two goals in second half play. The first coming fifteen minutes into second half play with Biska Biyombo getting revenge on the Cougars' keeper Luciano Trasolini following Trasolini' stuffing of Biyombo's attempt three minutes earlier. With the Cougars unable to clear a loose ball in the box, Biyombo went oppo post upper-90 cutting the deficit to four.

Roemer answered for Barton three minutes finishing off Sora Wakabayashi's cross pushing the lead back out to five.

The teams would continue to trade goals the rest of the way. Following Trasolini's leaping save midway through the half, the Trojans made the most of Ramirez' ensuing corner kick as Abraham Soto's header found the net making the score 6-2 with 21:33 remaining.

Damien Smok closed out the scoring with 6:33 left in the contest beating the Trojans second goalkeeper of the day Shamar Jemison near post upper-90 to finish off Cyprien N'goma's long ball.

Barton was dominant for most of the ninety minutes as twenty-three players saw field action resulting in twenty-seven shots with seventeen coming on frame while limiting Trinidad State to just eight shots with five on goal.
