For the second time in as many weeks, Bruce Turner of the Barton Community College men's soccer team has been awarded the KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week award.
Turner kept his 2016 record unblemished protecting the net in two Barton victories this past week. Rejecting nine of the ten shots faced, Turner was stellar in the tight 2-1 win Monday over Garden City Community College. With the Cougars trailing 1-0 in first half action, Turner's athletic deflection of an upper-90 shot was critical in keeping the deficit at one finishing with five saves enabling the 2-1 comeback win.
In Thursday's regional win over Hesston, Turner kept the net clean for the third time in four games since re-earning the starting goalkeeper job improving to 4-0 helping the Cougars to a 10-2 overall record.
Turner is the fourth Cougar to earned conference honors this season joining Lucas Alves, Mario Ramirez, and fellow goalkeeper Juan Parente.
The victories, in addition to receiving a forfeit win over Pratt Community College, moves the Cougars into the second spot of the Region VI standings at 8-2 clinching at least a first round home playoff game. With just two games remaining in the regular season, the Cougars travel to region fourth place Dodge City Community College on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. kick against the 4-4-1 and 4-7-2 Conquistadors. Barton will wrap up the regular season Saturday, October 22, hosting Northwest Kansas Technical College in a 3:00 p.m. kick.
