Ramirez strikes for Cougars' third soccer conference weekly award

For the second straight week a member of the Barton Community College men's soccer team earned conference honors awarded each week.  Mario Ramirez, who helped lead the Cougars to two victories last week, joined fellow striker Lucas Alves in giving Barton consecutive Player of the Week honors as Juan Parente had earned the goalkeeper honor last week as well.

The freshman from El Dorado, Texas, had a foot in four of Barton's five goals last week scoring a goal and dishing out three assists.  In the Cougars' mid-week 2-0 shutout of Dodge City, Ramirez accounted for both goals scoring the game winner just five minutes into the contest.   This past Sunday, Ramirez dished out the equalizing goal before helping to seal Sunday's 3-1 victory with his third assist of the week in helping Barton snap a three-year losing streak to Pratt.

The two conference victories improved the Cougars to 2-1 in conference play and 4-1 on the season.   Barton will travel to Hesston College on Friday for its next contest with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff being proceeded by the women's game at 5:00 p.m.

Barton returns to Jayhawk West play next Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. kick in a rematch with No. 19 and pre-season conference favorite Cloud County Community College who defeated the Cougars 1-0 back on September 9 in Concordia.
