Late goals power Barton men's soccer to season opening victory, earn Coach Brown's first collegiate win
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team created opportunities throughout Tuesday’s season opener in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, finally breaking through late capturing a 2-0 victory at Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa. The victory earns first year Head Coach Mike Brown’s first collegiate victory while dropping the Mavericks to 2-2 on the season. Barton will next play an exhibition match at the Cougar Soccer Complex beginning at 4:00 p.m. Friday against Tabor College before officially opening the home season Sunday at 12:00 p.m. versus Western Nebraska Community College.

Unable to convert a penalty kick at the 60th minute, the Cougars finally took the goose egg off the board with eighteen minutes remaining as Luca Perez punched in his first collegiate goal to the bottom third off a loose ball in the box. Returning first team all-conference and region standout Lucas Alves put the final dagger in the Mavericks decleating two defenders before beating the keep to the far post with thirty seconds remaining for his 14th collegiate goal.
