Cougars fend off pesky Red Devils to earn 4-2 victory
The Barton Community College men’s soccer team put away a pesky Allen Community College team with a sensational play by a defender in Saturday afternoon’s 4-2 victory at the Cougar Soccer Complex. With the win the Cougars improve to 5-1 in conference play and 6-1-1 overall while Allen drops to 1-2-0 in conference and 3-4-0 overall. Barton will have a week off from competition before hosting Neosho County Community College in a 4:00 p.m. conference contest at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

Ebu Camara gave the Cougars an early 1-0 lead just 2:21 into the contest racing down the left side of the field and beating the Allen keeper on the far post. Allen would quickly strike back a mere minute and a half later as Dominic Nwagwu blasted a shot outside the eighteen just under the crossbar. Baton would regain the lead with 20:58 remaining before half as Mariano Gelso drove left side crossing to Camara on the back post.
Camara returned the favor to Gelso just 2:45 into the second half crossing a left side pass to Gelso who leaped in the air to put a left foot kick past the Allen keeper. The Red Devils drew back to within one with 36:17 to play as Brett Rex converted a penalty kick from a controversial Cougar foul.
The play of the game for the Cougars came from defender Carter Way with 24:39 remaining. Way raced down the left side from to midfield to make a sliding left boot cross pass just before the ball reached the end line to Jovanny Bonilla who hammered home the pass to give the Cougars the eventual 4-2 win.
