Vargas named men’s soccer KJCCC goalkeeper of the week for second time
Barton Community College men’s soccer goalkeeper Mauricio Vargas has been named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time in four weeks. Anchoring a young and inexperienced defensive line, Vargas continues to help develop and lead the team not always evident in his statistics. However this past week, Vargas’ statistics clearly displayed his dominance in goal helping the Cougars to two shutout road conference victories. Vargas, a sophomore from Jersey City, New Jersey, not only recorded 19 saves in two games but made numerous great out-of-goal plays on crosses and potential threats to help protect the shutouts. For the season Vargas has four shutouts and fourteen in his career, moving him to within one of 3rd place on Barton’s all-time list.
