No. 19 Cougars cruise to 4-0 win at Cowley

The No. 19 ranked Barton Community College opened the 2013 conference season much like they did throughout the previous season as the Cougars dominated play and cruised to a 4-0 shutout of Cowley College Thursday night in Arkansas City.  Barton improves to 2-0-1 on the season and 1-0 in Jayhawk Conference play while Cowley drops to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in conference.  The Cougars will play its first game of the season at home on Sunday as the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens come to the Cougar Soccer Complex for a 3:00 p.m. contest.

Barton controlled tempo and opportunities from the onset but missed multiple scoring opportunities.  Sophomore Jovanny Bonilla, who came off the bench midway through the first half, helped put the Cougars on the board with just under fifteen minutes remaining in the first half.  Bonilla  worked left side across the box then launched a perfect cross over the outstretched goalkeeper finding freshman Juan Correa on the back post who hammered it into the back of the net.

Sophomore Soriba "Ebu" Camara gave the Cougars a 2-0 halftime advantage by beating the keeper less than four minutes later off sophomore Dinafor Kori's pass.

Camara, who tied for the team lead in goals his freshman season, scored his second of the night twelve minutes into the second frame taking another Kori pass giving the Cougars a commanding 3-0 lead.

With the game in hand, first-year head coach Kevin Kewley began to substitute the lineup as every Cougar who played saw action.

Barton put the final touches on the night as Kori took advantage of a Cowley keeper miscue to head in a deep free-kick from freshman Christopher Hogg with 17:20 to play.

Mauricio Vargas, who won the week one conference goalkeeper of the week award, earned his second shutout of the season and twelveth of his career.
