Cougars defeat Dodge City, eye Region VI Championship

Standing in the Barton Community College men's soccer team's path to the championship game, the Dodge City Community College team kept things interesting but the No. 6 ranked Cougars prevailed 2-0.  Next up for the 15-2-1 Cougars will be Johnson County Community College in the Region VI Championship at 12:00 p.m.

Dodge played the Cougars all square until the fiftieth-ninth minute when McCrillis broke the scoreless tie.  Mariano Gelso stole an errant Dodge City pass and quickly found McCrillis who sprinted past the off-guard defenders to beat Dodge's keeper Rigo Sandoval on the near post.  The Cougars got the insurance goal with eight minutes later as freshman Hector Mata finished off a Sam McCrillis pass through the box for the final 2-0 victory.

Pummeling the Conqs with twenty-four shots, Barton had three goals taken off the board as the Cougars were called for offsides negating the goals and forcing Sandoval into eight saves. Barton goalkeeper Mauricio Vargas Campos was stellar for the Cougars in goal coming up with acrobatic saves turning away eight out of Dodge's ten shots.
