Bolander leads Barton men’s golf in home tournament.
The Barton Community College men's golf team carded a pair of solid rounds the past two days in running away with the Barton Invitational title in protecting its home turf of Lake Barton Golf Course.
The Cougars posted a 281 on Monday before battling 15-20mph south winds Tuesday with another solid 283 card for a 4-over 564 in the two days for a fifty-nine stroke victory. In third following a 309, Hesston College shot a 314 on Tuesday in moving up to the second spot at 63-over 623 as Fort Scott Community College had 306 and 318 rounds finishing at 64-over 624. Central Christian College started off with a 309 before closing with a 326 in finishing eleven strokes back at 75-over 635.
Axel Bolander stayed under par in both rounds, opening with a 2-under 68 followed with a final 69 to win by three strokes compiling a 3-under 137. Making a final day charge with the field's best round of 2-under, Otto Heden finished at even par 140 after an opening 72 card.
Sophomores Tom Lehmann and Ethan Bonnett finished third and fourth respectively, Lehman at 2-over 142 with 70 and 72 rounds while Bonnett accumulated a 5-over 145 after 71 and 74 rounds.
Cracking the top ten of the twenty-six member field, Thantup Saengvut put together 78 and 76 rounds for a 14-over 154 while Tanapoom Kaewjoey finished just outside in 11th with a 75 and 81 card for a 16-over 156.
Anthony Arriola and Keegan O'Shea rounded out the Barton entries in a tie for 22nd at 24-over 164. Arriola carded 80-84 rounds with O'Shea opening with a 4-over 75 before sliding down with a closing 89.
Barton will wrap up the fall portion of the schedule next week at Meadowlake Golf Course in Enid, Oklahoma, participating in the Ranger Fall Invitational held October 17-18.
