Final round charge leads Barton men's golf to third placing in conference opener

The Barton Community College men's golf team made a second round charge on Monday as the Cougars tied for third place in the KJCCC's first meet of the season.  Competing at Manhattan's Colbert Hills Golf Course, the Cougars were in fourth place with a cold morning round of 311 before heating up for a final round second best 298 score to catch Kansas City Kansas Community College for the third spot at 33-over par 609.

Jakkapat Horsangchai led the Cougars firing a tournament low 2-under 70 in the final round to finish runner-up by one stroke with a 1-over 145.  Thitipong Homruen was four strokes back with 75-74 rounds as the freshman finished in a fourth place tie with a 5-over 149.

Freshman Kylian Cavdar just missed a top ten finish by one stroke as the France native made his Cougar debut with a 78 before carding a 75 for a 9-over 153 to move three spots in the standings to 13th.   Seokunh Kang was next on the Cougars squad with rounds of 83 and 79 to finish in 27th with an 18-over par 162.

Riley Kane rounded out the team members with an 85 and 80 to finish at 21-over 165 in 36th spot while Christian VanNover matched Horsanchai and Kane's five stroke improvement on the final round in carding an 87 and 82 to finish in 39th at 25-over 169.

No. 3 ranked Dodge City Community College took the conference's first meet title of the season jumping from second to first with the lone round better than the Cougars, carding a 305 and 290 to finish at 19-over 595.  First round leader Hutchinson Community College slipped to the second spot at 28-over as the No. 7 ranked Blue Dragons carded consistent rounds of 303 and 301 for a total of 604.

Barton's next action is a week away as the Cougars travel to Wichita on Monday for the KJCCC Meet No. 2 held at Terradyne Golf Course for another thirty-six holes of action.
