Barton men’s golf season ends in nationally ranked packed district tournament
The Barton Community College men's golf team shot a competitive three rounds this past Monday and Tuesday at the Wild Horse Golf Course in Gothenburg, Nebraska. Unfortunately for the No. 23 ranked Cougars, five nationally ranked top fifteen teams were also at the meet vying for one of three national championship bids as Barton would have its season come to an end in the Region VI and District III Championships held at the Wild Horse Golf Course. The Cougars’ 929 combined score placed fourth in the region while finishing sixth in district play.

National rankings held true for the final team standings as top ranked Indian Hills Community College took the district crown by eighteen strokes finishing with an Even-par 864. No. 6 ranked Iowa Western Community College took second at 18-over 882 while Hutchinson Community College grabbed the final national berth as the No. 10 ranked Blue Dragons edged out No. 13 ranked Dodge City Community College by one stroke at 26-over 890. Garden City, who trailed the Cougars after the first round, leapfrogged into the fifth spot as the No. 15 Broncbusters carded a 33-over 897.
Jakkapat Horsangchai got off to a great start shooting an even par tying for third place on the opening eighteen holes finishing the two-round day at 2-over and in eighth place. With weather conditions drastically changing on Tuesday, Horsangchai was one of the six-of-seven Cougars struggling with the cold and windy morning finishing his tournament with an 80 slipping into a 14th tie at 8-over 224.
Placing eighth at the conference championships, Natchapol Srinoon was the lone Cougar to put together three rounds in the eighties finishing his Barton career with a 12-over 228 placing 23rd.
Shooting day one rounds of 78 and 73, a final round 83 kept Seokhun Kang from a top twenty-five finish slipping to the 34th spot at 18-over 234.
Four Cougars rounded out the final four spots in the individual standings with Blake Huxman being the lone Cougar to have an improved third round score with consistent 81-84-81 rounds finishing at 30-over 246. Andrew Iverson, who broke eighty with a second round 79, had bookend rounds of 83 and 86 finishing two strokes behind at 248. Fellow sophomore Jared Oelke also posted his best score in the middle round shooting an 81 sandwiched between a pair of 85 winding up his Barton career at 35-over 251. Freshman Dakota Soukup continued the second round trend firing an 80 in between 89 and 90 rounds for a 43-over 259.
