Final day charge earns Barton men’s golf fourth place at Jayhawk Meet No. 2
The Barton Community College men's golf team rallied on the final day of the second Jayhawk Conference meet of the season rising to a fourth place finish Tuesday at Hutchinson’s Cottonwood Hills Golf Course. As the teams competed Monday in less than ideal golf weather, Barton shot an opening day 332 tying for the fifth spot before firing a 313 final round for a combined 69-over 645.

Tied with Allen Community College going into the final round, Barton's charge blew past the Red Devils while also erasing a twenty stroke deficit to first day second place Kansas City Kansas Community College as the Blue Devils of KCK slipped behind the Cougars to the fifth spot. Hutchinson Community College took the meet title with a 611 with Dodge City Community College close behind at 617 while Garden City Community College was twenty-one strokes behind at 638 and seven strokes in front of Barton's 645.
Jakkapat Horsangchai again led the Cougars rising from an opening 82 round fifteenth placing closing with a 78 climbing into the tenth spot at 16-over 160.
A log jam of Cougars hovered around the 20-over mark. Two of those got there in opposite manner as Jared Oelke and Andrew Iverson tied for 17th overall with a 19-over 163. Oelke shook off an 84 opening round shaving off five strokes on the final day for a 79 while Iverson, who led the Cougars after the first day with a seventh spot 77, closed with a final 86.
Natchapol Srinoon moved up the standings on the final day with rounds of 85 and 79 to finish twentieth at 20-over par while Blake Huxman finished one place behind following a rough 88 first day firing the Cougars' low round of the day with a 77 springing eighteen spots up the individual standings.
Finishing twelfth in his inaugural conference tournament, Seokhun Kang just couldn't find his normal stroke shooting an 81 and 84 to finish in 21st place at 21-over.
The Cougars will have six days to tune-up their game as Barton will head to Newton, Kansas, next Monday and Tuesday for the Region VI Championships held at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
