Barton Bowling rolls to pair of Top-8 performances at SWIBC I & II; Peterson earns fifth place finish #GoBarton

Barton Men's Bowling results at SWIBC I & II on October 2nd and 3rd

Competing as the lone NJCAA school this past weekend the Barton Community College bowling programs took on their first tier 1 events of the season at the SWIBC I-II held in Dallas, Texas.

The Cougar women concluded the two events with a seventh and eighth place performance while their counterparts the Barton men flip flopped the script with an eighth and seventh place outing.

Saturday's SWIBC I Recap
Saturday's SWIBC I format featured five individual team games concluding with 12 baker games. 

Women:
The Barton women concluded Saturday's event with a sixth-place finish tallying 5829 pins falling 415 pins back of fifth place Kansas Wesleyan University and 222 pins ahead of seventh place West Texas A&M University. Claiming the team title was Tulane University edging out Stephen F. Austin State University by 33 pins with a grand total of 7094.

The Cougars found themselves in sixth place with 3896 pins succeeding the opening five individual team games with lone returner from a season ago Taylor Cessna recording a 20th place finish out of the 68-entry field. The sophomore was the lone Cougar to toss all five games tallying a grand total of 895 pins including a team high average score of 179 per 10-frames.

Leading the Barton women a week ago freshman Casey Feast notched her second straight top-50 outing with a 47th place finish tallying 688 pins over four games tossed. Making her first appearance of the season in team games Brecken Philbrick fell four spots back of Feast knocking down 628 pins tossing a team best game score of 189.

Unable to climb up the ladder in baker games, the Cougars stayed consistent rolling to the sixth best score out of the nine-team field scoring a total of 1933 pins.

Men:
The Cougar men capped the SWIBC I placing eighth out of the 12 teams rolling to a total score of 6039 pins just 173 back of seventh place West Texas A&M University and 91 to the good of ninth place University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Outlasting the field was Oklahoma Christian University racking up a final total of 7184 pins bettering Spring Hill College by 395 pins.

Barton started the day in seventh place concluding the five individual team games compiling a score of 4105. Leading the way individually was Griffin Peterson recording his first top-5 performance of his collegiate career totaling the fifth best score of 934 pins. The freshman rolled to a top average score of 187 including three contests over 200 with his highest a 212 in the finale.

Andrew Harden capped his strong day with a total of 869 pins falling just 75 pins back of Peterson obtaining a 14th place finish. Rolling in just four games Bryce Moore bounced back from an opening round score of 114 with the clubs' highest round of the day in game three tossing a 227 concluding his day in 63rd.

The 12 baker rounds were unlucky to the Cougars as Barton bowled the ninth best score of 1934 slipping a spot back in the final standings.

Sunday's SWIBC II Recap
Sunday's SWIBC II format featured seven individual team games to conclude the weekend's two-day event.

Women:
Mixing up the lineup in Sunday's competition the Barton women posted a team score of 5412 slipping a spot back from Saturday's final standings netting a seventh-place finish with a score of 5412 pins. Claiming the team crown was Louisiana Tech University carding a score of 6779 eding out the previous days champion Tulane University by 121 pins.

Individually the Cougars were led by Philbrick's 32nd performance scoring a seven-game total of 1198 for an average round of 158.

Courtney Kitchen turned in a 1021 card leading Barton with the highest single round score of 196 and tournament average round of 170 falling seven spots back of Philbrick with a 39th place finish.

Men:
The Cougar men bettered their team finish in Sunday's action tallying a score of 6081 earning a seventh-place result. Spring Hill College got revenge of Oklahoma Christian University scoring a top score of 6894 pins earning the team crown.

Peterson remained the hot hand for Barton in Sunday's action bowling a seven-game score of 1256 finishing 20th in the 114-competitor field.

Miller matched his Saturday's top round score of 227 in Sunday's round six, leading the Cougars with a top average round of 182 over five games thrown.

Barton's next action will come close to home as the Cougars head to Wichita on October 16th and October 17th for the Mid-State Championships.
