Barton Bowling stages late comeback for sixth place finish at NJCAA Championships #GoBarton

Competing in the programs second ever NJCAA Championships, the Barton Community College men's bowling team staged a late comeback concluded the season with a sixth place finish this past weekend at the Royal Scot Golf and Bowl in Lansing, Michigan.

Following day one of competition, the Cougars found themselves in eighth-place tallying 5,243 pins falling just 69 pins back of seventh place Mid-Michigan College and 102 back of sixth place St. Clair County Community College after the trio of singles and doubles action..

Sophomore Creyton Nisly led the Barton squad individually to a 15th place performance against the 90-competitor field, tipping over 584 pins in three single games. Nisly jumped out the gates firing a fifth best score of 224 in the opening round before sliding 10 spots back in the final standings with scores of 169 and 191. Teammate Kaden Goldsmith fell four spots back with a 19th place finish riding scores of 172, 187 and 211.

In doubles, Nisly and Jacob Holden posted stout doubles performances as the twosome combined for a team best 1,116 pins leading to a seventh place outing. Holden led the duo and squad with 575 pins (157, 237, and 181), while Nisly carded rounds of (164, 189, 188) for a final tally of 541.

Maintaining the eighth spot in the team standings through the second day of action, the Cougars bowled a ninth best mark of 2,582 in Thursday's lone 5-man three-team competition.

Entering the final day consisting of the final 5-man three-team game and trio of three baker games the Barton climb commenced. The Cougars bested their previous day's 5-man game round by 35 pins leaping five spots to a fourth place showing while clawing back to within 17 pins of seventh place Mid-Michigan College in the team standings.

Opening the nine baker games in three separate blocks, the Cougars tossed the sixth highest score in the opening block rattling 518 pins. However, the climb up the leaderboard continued to spike posting the second best score of 598 in the second baker break while accounting the highest score in the final baker block by 50 pins tallying a 641 mark finishing with the top baker score of 1,757 and sixth best tournament score of 12,199.
