Barton Bowling earns pair of 12th place finishes at Mid-States Championships
The Barton Community College bowling teams wrapped up their first tier 1 event of the season this past weekend at the Mid States Championships, held in Wichita, KS.
Featuring the toughest field, the Cougars have faced thus far throughout the season featuring powerhouses from the Division I and Division II levels, Barton brought home a pair of top-15 showings with both teams earning 12th place outings.
Competing in Saturday's five game team challenge the Cougar men placed ninth, tipping over 4279 pins one better than 10th place Ottawa University. Host school Wichita State University tallied the most pins knocking over 5150 pins with St. Ambrose University totaling 4925 pins.
The Cougar men slipped three spots in Sunday's 16-game baker matches tallying 6749 pins, falling 143 pins shy of 12th place Baker University. Earning the weekend title maintaining their spot from Saturday's performance was Wichita State University recording 8274 pins.
Leading the Barton men individually over the weekend was freshman Grayson Graham leveling over 876 pins for a 175-average earning a 40th place finish.
On the women's side, the Cougars rolled to an opening day 10th place finish knocking over 4292 pins edging out Iowa Central Community College by 36 pins. Wichita State University led the field after the five-game challenge tallying 5032 pins with Midland University compiling 4750 for a second place showing in day one competition.
In Sunday's 16 game baker competition, the Cougars faltered two spots scoring 6868 pins. Holding strong from Saturday's performance Wichita State University took the overall tournament compiling 8125 pins while Oklahoma Christian University fell 533 pins shy earning a runner-up finish.
Sophomore Taylor Cessna earned a top-20 finish blasting down 935 pins for an average mark of 187 pins per 10-frames. Alexandria Newell fell 15 spots back tallying 849 pins.
Barton will have a couple weeks off before returning to the lanes February 26-27 competing in the 12th Annual Hammer Lions Classic held in St Charles, Missouri.
